The main problem is so many deniers in positions of power. Pushing their narrative so they can keep making billions. In Australia, we had a Conservative Govt from 2013 to 2022, and they did nothing to increase renewables of come up with any solutions, just claimed Climate Change was not happening at the rate the scientists stated. And now they are out of power and in opposition. they are attacking the Labor Govts renewables plan and claiming it will cost trillions while pushing for Nuclear power plants to be built. Even though building Nuclear plants won't have any affect till they come online around 2040. Add in the number of Australians who are now believing that is the way and to dump renewables shows how Australia has taken a backward step in doing anything about Climate Change.

I suggest that you reach out and then pull all of the levers in your empowered wheelhouse while bending the arc of the moral universe to social justice to mitigate the horrors of systemic, structural, strategic and institutional oppression. What the average person does not understand and they really do need to know this and take heed, is that the damage is done . Even if tomorrow we stopped all CO2 being admitted into the atmosphere it would not have any desired affect. The best scenario is it would slow down a little bit. It's like a start of a long marathon once the starting shot was fired it's already to late. The feedback loop is already in affect. Once the global atmosphere goes passed a certain point which it has already, its just a long slope to global change in land and sea. The earth will still be here just not the same as we know it now. Coastline , mass migration inland , and as always in every disaster the poor will suffer and probably die first. Agricultural land will be affected greatly , meaning starvation on a mass scale. If you are under the age of 20 you will witness these changes with your own eyes. What we are witnessing now is the just a small footnote of the horror to come.

  • @StressRUs

Fabulously naive! Melting ice absorbs heat energy, never mentioned here, but 1 pound absorbs 144 BTUs and 11% of the earth's surface is melting and absorbing an ENORMOUS amount of human generated heat energy, 0.6 cm/yr X 0.11 X 57.3 X 10-6th sq mi.X 144/# X #/sq mi. Too much math for me, but maybe you get the picture. Also, 1.2 trillion tons of global ice are melting annually (C3S), including 2/3rds of the 220,000 glaciers by 2,100. But here's the real licker: even with all this melting ice absorbing heat energy, and the seas absorbing 90% of the atmospheric heat (already at 70 degF), and the 1M tons of water vapor evaporating while absorbing 2265 kJ/kg, the heat is still rising rapidly (see C3S) "Climate Pulse". If this isn't clear scientific evidence of our having crossed a tipping point already, the then I don't know what is. So, thanks BBC, for the wonderfully produced and entertaining video, but you entirely missed the point: what the melting permafrost and global ice is telling us about the massive amount of heat we are producing by burning 8 billion tons of coal/yr. annually, and 100 million barrels of oil every day. We are on a global suicide mission and may have already set the doomsday clock on 12.

Once it starts melting the bacteria will start to create their own heat. The temperature will have to dramatically drop in order to overcome this new source of heat energy and return it all back to its frozen state. ….that’s not going to happen under current conditions. The sleeping dragon has been awoken - basically we’re screwed

  • @williameason1194

Was there permafrost before the little ice age? Isn't the climate just returning to what it was before the little ice age, augmented now by the additional pollution we have begun, really, since the early 1900s as industrialization began having its effect? The end of the little ice age, estimated by most recent studies at about 1820, may well be the "cause" of this warming simply by gradually thawing, much like a chicken thaws out in the refrigerator when removed from the freezer. We humans may not be to blame for anything but treating this place like a garbage dump and making things worse simply because we're pigs.

We are all connected. We are connect to the permafrost because it keeps the planet cool so it doesn't burn. There are wild fire fighters, zombie fires, still burning from last year. You are a shallow person and when you die you will realize that all people are connected and you will have to come back again until you get it right. Remember Melania trump wore a jacket that I don't care do you? after the hurricane. That's who you are, like that. WHY WOULDN'T you care about them.
